Free HIV & Older Adults Training Opportunity
The HIV epidemic is graying as a result of advances in treatment. Today, adults 50
and over account for 27% of the U.S. population with HIV. The number is rising.
SAGE, in collaboration with the AIDS Community Research Initiative of America (ACRIA), offers a free, first-in-the-nation, program of HIV training for staff and peer leaders at senior centers and other groups serving older adults.
HIV Over 50 Training will prepare you to discuss:

ACCESS NYC Terminals - Free Computer Giveaway
As you are probably aware, ACCESS NYC is GIVING AWAY ACCESS NYC terminals to qualified 501c3 organizations and City Agencies. The awarded terminals will be dedicated computer stations (computer and printer) for clients to screen themselves for benefits using the ACCESS NYC website (www.nyc.gov/accessnyc).
There are ONLY 75 computers remaining and we’d really like to give them away before the end of this calendar year. Awards will be made on a first-come-first-serve basis to all qualified 501c3 organizations and City agencies. The application is easy to complete so apply today!

Study looking to run groups for HIV+ women Bedford Stuyvesant Family Health and Wellness Center
The study is looking to run groups for HIV+ women (at birth) who are 18 years and older. The groups will be held 1x per week for 16 weeks. Each group is 2 hours. The group’s primary focus (10 weeks) is stress reduction and using cognitive behavior therapy to address stress. The women will also learn different relaxation techniques to assist them with stress at the beginning of each group. The final 6 sessions will focus on health lifestyle topics – nutrition, physical fitness, safer sex, risk reduction (drug, alcohol and smoking sensation). This group is open to the community.

New "Buddy" Program for Children with Diabetes
Ben's Friends is a no-cost community based program connecting children newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes with children already living with type 1, serving as positive role models to offer companionship, support and advice. The newly diagnosed child (Little Buddy) will be matched with a confident, healthy, well-adjusted child who doesn’t let diabetes stand in the way of a happy childhood! In turn, the program hopes to inspire in the experienced child (Big Buddy) a sense of pride and accomplishment in helping a newly diagnosed child.
If you have a have a child who manages diabetes well, has a positive attitude and you think may make a great Big Buddy, you may request a program application by emailing bensfriends1@aol.com. Be sure to put “Big Buddy Application” in the subject line. You may also fax request to 212-724-1171. Upon completion of application, parents must agree to the program’s terms and conditions set forth for participation in Ben’s Friends.

The New York City Health & Hospitals Corporation received funding from the Mayor’s Center for Economic Opportunity program to provide nursing school scholarships for income eligible New York City residents to attend nursing programs leading to employment at an HHC facility.

Free Domestic Violence Workshops
We offer on-site training about domestic and intimate partner violence to agencies and service providers. Workshops include assessment and response, advocacy, and safety planning, and can be tailored to your program’s needs and the population served. Length of workshops can range from 1 hour to half-day. The Safe Homes Project, a community based program of Good Shepherd Services, has provided services and advocacy for survivors of domestic violence for over 30 years. Free HIV Prevention Workshops at Your Agency
CAMBA’s Evidence-Based Intervention (EBI) Program is available and eager to provide the SISTA and Healthy Relationships interventions at your agency. The interventions are part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Effective Behavioral Interventions initiative. Both interventions consist of five two-hour sessions plus a booster session. EBI staff will schedule sessions to best accommodate your agency’s clients. The EBI Program provides Metrocards, incentives, and refreshments.
SISTA, which stands for “Sisters Informing Sisters on Topics about AIDS,” is designed to increase condom use with African American women. The peer-led group sessions focus on ethnic and gender pride, HIV knowledge, and skills training around sexual risk reduction behaviors and decision making.
Healthy Relationships is a small-group intervention for men and women living with HIV/AIDS. The group sessions focus on developing and practicing decision making skills related to disclosure and risk behavior. Facilitators use clips from famous movies to frame discussions and group activities.
