Approximately 400,000 Americans are living with multiple sclerosis (MS), and each week 200 additional individuals are diagnosed. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free support group for individuals diagnosed with MS during the past two years. The Living with MS Support Group offers information and a place to begin to discuss concerns, experiences and resources. Obesity is an epidemic that impacts over nine million Americans. More and more people who are affected by obesity are seeking to learn about surgical weight reduction. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free Surgical Weight Reduction Information Seminar and Support Group. This month the group will meet on Wednesday, January 18, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Thursday, January 28, 2010 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. During the first 30 minutes of the seminar, a surgeon will conduct an information session for individuals who are interested in learning about the surgery. A 90-minute support group meeting open to pre- and post-operative patients will follow the information session.
