Research continues to support the fact that rates of HIV infection are in part driven by HIV stigma and people’s lack of willingness to talk about HIV and disclose their status, especially as they face other stigmas including those caused by racism, sexism and homophobia. Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) addresses these aspects of the epidemic by creating targeted ad campaigns and offering opportunities to HIV positive and negative clients and participants for dealing with these issues.
GMHC’s new program “Choices” is a new series of workshops that specifically deals with disclosure and building healthier relations.
The orientations for the next series of workshops begin on Tuesday February 3rd, 2009 and Friday February 6th, 2009 providing various incentives.
Client Registration/Intake hours are as follows:
*Mondays: 11:00am-4:00pm
*Tuesdays: 10:00am-1:30pm
*Wednesdays: 4:00pm-6:30pm
*Thursdays: 10am-12:30pm

To schedule an appointment, please call 212 367-1500. They can also be reached at intake@gmhc.org

CHAMP Teleconference: The Opportunities and Perils of Blogging for HIV/AIDS Advocates
2009-02-04 2:00pm-3:00pm
Everyone's talking about blogs, blogs, blogs... and many of us know they can be a lot of fun to read.
But what is a blog? And are they worth our time as HIV/AIDS advocates seeking to win change and improve our efforts against the epidemic? If we know our communication goals, how can blogging be a part of reaching them in the Web 2.0 Era?
Join us for a stimulating call with two AIDS community bloggers who will discuss the basics of blogging, how to set goals for your use of blogs to further our work, and tips for making your posts or comments really work for you.
At the conclusion of the teleconference, participants will be able to:
*Understand what a blog is and its role as a communication tool
*Identify at least three characteristics of blogs that can be considered for strategic communications as HIV/AIDS advocates
*Set goals for their individual and organizational presence on blogs
*Utilize key strategies for successful blog posts and comments

Brooklyn
Please join CDF-New York, CUNY Medgar Evers College and Casey Family Programs for a one-day summit to kick off CDF's Cradle to Prison Pipeline® Campaign in New York. This summit will bring together community and faith
leaders, public officials, policymakers, youth, educators, child advocates and professionals in the fields of early childhood, health, mental health, child welfare, juvenile justice and youth development to develop a concrete
plan of action to halt the pipeline to prison in New York. The summit is a partnership between CDF-NY, CUNY’s Medgar Evers College and Casey Family Programs.
The focus of the first New York summit will be on the communities –predominantly low-income communities of color – that feed New York’s prison pipeline and explore promising approaches including policy changes, legislative action and neighborhood-based strategies to promote
