There are a number of effective initiatives to ensure that minority patients are adequately represented in cancer risk reduction, early detection, and treatment programs.
Minority populations are at higher risk of dying from particular cancers. Medically underserved minorities face multiple barriers, including financial, legal, linguistic, and cultural, to accessing important cancer care services. Providing risk reducing services such as screening and counseling can decrease cancer morbidity and mortality.

No appointment is needed – To help patients know their risk for heart disease, the clinic staff performs a comprehensive cardiac risk assessment and obtains glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, height and weight measurements. All patients receive instructions on prevention, including nutrition and life-style modification as well as educational literature to promote heart health.
