Obesity is an epidemic that impacts over nine million Americans. More and more people who are affected by obesity are seeking to learn about surgical weight reduction. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free Surgical Weight Reduction Information Seminar and Support Group. During the first 30 minutes of the seminar, a surgeon will conduct an information session for individuals who are interested in learning about the surgery. Applications for the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) are now available. SYEP is a paid, seven-week program open to all New York City residents between the ages of 14 and 21. Participants not only work at interesting jobs located throughout the five boroughs, they also learn about money management, career exploration and post-secondary education options. (Deadline is May 15, 2008)

"A Celebration of Motherhood"
The Caribbean Women's Health Association and SUNY Downstate Medical Center are hosting "A Celebration of Motherhood," an educational event for pregnant women and new moms on May 7th at the Brooklyn Public Library Grand Army location (10 Grand Army Plaza, corner of Eastern Parkway & Flatbush Ave). "Walk A Mile For Your Momma" is the Fourth Annual Mother's Day Walk to raise awareness about domestic violence. NYS Senator Eric Adams of District #20 will be the Grand Marshal of this event.
Participants will assemble at Bed-Stuy Restoration Plaza-Harriet Tubman Way(formerly Fulton Street)at New York Ave at 9am. The walk commences at 10am and ends at Fulton Park. A rally will take place at Fulton Park-Harriet Tubman Way at Stuyvesant Ave.
